Celebrating our partners at COP26

Two of our lead initiatives, AimHi and We Share Solar are doing amazing mahi as part of global climate event, COP 26. We want to congratulate them and share their stories…

We Share Solar

We have partnered with We Share Solar to adapt and develop their award winning global STEM programme with rangatahi in Aotearoa. Their amazing solar suitcases, which students learn to build, were first developed to reduce maternal deaths in Nigeria in 2008 by providing light for every birth. Their work in Zimbabwe was honoured at COP 26 Climate Summit with a National Energy Globe Award.

“The Solar Suitcase makes solar energy easily accessible, provides medical lighting, emergency communication and medical equipment for frontline healthcare facilities. A total of 5,200 health centres have already been equipped, and around 6 million children have been born without the exhaust of kerosene or generators.” Energy Globe Award, 2021.

AimHi Climate and Nature

We are working with AimHi Earth to accelerate Aotearoa to act on the climate and nature crisis. We are bringing together experts to explore what their world-leading programme could look like for Aotearoa.

The AimHi team have been leading change in climate and nature education across schools globally. 4,000 schools joined the Great Big Lesson for Nature at Cop26 last week to be inspired and share their voices. Matthew Shribman, co-founder, says that their lessons focus on nature because: “The scariest thing about Cop26 is that people think we can control the climate crisis just thinking about carbon. Imagine the world we will get to if that’s all we think about? There will be no nature, and the world will be an unhealthy place, but at least we’ve got to net zero,” he says.

Huge congratulations to both the AimHi and We Care Solar teams. Kia Kotahi Ako continues to be amazed by what you are achieving and are excited to be walking alongside you in Aotearoa to accelerate education initiatives that will improve the planet.
